Brett Phillips is a Christchurch-based visual artist. Through his work, he examines the self, the other, and the constructed realities we navigate. With a Bachelor of Arts 1991 (Anthropology, Art History minor) from the University of Otago, his background reflects in the way he views and responds to the world around him.

Infused with the rebellious energy of Christchurch’s street art, his work is loud and intentional. Blending traditional techniques with, words and motifs, Brett’s work exists in the post-modern, conceptual space.

28th January – 15th February 2026

[in]form is Brett Phillips’ third exhibition, continuing his ongoing investigation into how we make sense of ourselves and the world around us. Working at the intersection of image, sign, symbol, and text, his practice explores how meaning is formed, learned, and passed on.
